“Minari” (2020)
--------------------------------------------
This quietly effective effort from writer/director Lee Isaac Chung finds a Korean family (Steven Yeun, Yeri Han, Neol Cho, and Alan S. Kim) relocating to the Arkansas countryside circa the 80s where they hope to make a living by way of a risky farming venture. While building a whole new life comes with its own set of challenges, this family must also adjust to a major culture shift, a shift that is made none the easier when grandma (played by an Oscar-winning Youn yuh-Jung) eventually moves in. Come and see a film that Cinemast.net’s Adam Mast calls; “A well-balanced, honest, and undeniably moving immigration story that’s all about the tiny nuances. Chung’s eye for character detail is next to none and the fashion in which the title of this gentle movie sums up the overall theme of the piece is near-perfect.”
FMASU’s screening of “Minari” will include an intro and post-screening discussion led by a TBA special guest. Additionally, we’ll be giving attendees their very first look at the upcoming 2023 Electric Film Series lineup before this screening.
Be sure to arrive at the screening a little early and leave an optional donation. This donation will get you a delicious menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take it home with you following the movie. On a final note, don’t forget to spread the word about our final Electric Film Series screening of 2022 by sharing this event page!
