About the Event

In honor of the current 100-Year Celebration of Utah Film and Television, The Film and Media Alliance of Southern Utah and Greater Zion proudly present a special 20th anniversary screening of “Saints and Soldiers.” Shot in Alpine, UT, this movie–which hit the film festival circuit in 2003 before making its official theatrical bow in August of 2004– has garnered quite the statewide fanbase. In addition to emerging as an undeniably moving portrait of war, it also beautifully illustrates the true spirit of independent filmmaking.

Directed and co-produced by the talented Ryan Little, the World War II-set “Saints and Soldiers” finds a group of soldiers valiantly attempting to make it back to allied territory after being separated from U.S. forces during the Malmedy Massacre. Gradually, these men learn quite a bit about one another as they look to survive harsh conditions while trapped behind enemy lines.

This one night only screening–which is being sponsored by the Utah Film Commission, GO Films, Riggatti's Pizza, St. George City RAP Tax, and Washington County RAP Tax– will include a very insightful conversation with Mr. Little, producer Adam Abel, screenwriter Matt Whitaker and stars Corbin Allred, Kirby Heyborne, Peter Holden, and Larry Bagby. And bringing a little extra magic to the proceedings will be our very special guest moderator; The great Doug Jones! This veteran actor is, perhaps, best known for his stunning collaborations with Guillermo del Toro, an impressive list of credits that includes the masterpiece, "Pan's Labyrinth." As it happens, Mr. Jones is a huge fan of "Saints and Soldiers" so you can expect a very lively and undeniably informative discussion.
